The SANBS has less blood in it than a character with a high fever from a Victorian novel. Blood shortage is a chronic, and very serious problem in South Africa. The problem is, it’s a hard task getting us to care about the situation. We’re currently rolling with 2,6 days worth of reserve stock – less than ideal.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) recently launched this new ad campaign to encourage South Africans to donate blood, and they’re using the hashtag #DONation Twitter to collate support – which is super endearing, because yay puns.
The pay off line of the ad is:
Some get medals. Some get applause. Some get idolised, and some get glorified. For others – juice and a biscuit is enough.
And that’s when you rush down to your nearest donation station, bawling your eyes out, and beg them to put a needle in your arm.
Jokes aside, do it. You are definitely saving someone’s life.
For more information on how you can donate blood, you can visit https://www.sanbs.org.za , tweet @theSANBS or fan the DONation of heroes here https://www.facebook.com/SANBS.
