“YOLO, you only live once/The battle cry of a generation”.
The Lonely Island is a musical comedy group, famous for producing cutting-edge pop music containing the most bizarre lyrics (anyone remember Dick In A Box and I Just Had Sex?).
Their latest video sees them take on one of the biggest buzzwords currently doing the rounds: YOLO. The catchphrase (which stands for “you only live once”) was popularized by rapper Drake in his 2011 single, The Motto.
But where YOLO is usually shouted before someone is about to do something stupid or dangerous, The Lonely Island’s version instead offers tips on how not to die. They’ve also enlisted the help of Adam Levine from Maroon 5 and rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Here are some examples of the handy tips you are about to receive:
- “And stay the hell away from drugs cause they’re not legal/Then bury all your money in the backyard like a beagle”.
- “There’s no such thing as too much Purell/This a cautionary tale, word to George Orwell”.
- “Board your windows up the sun is bad for your health/And always wear a straight jacket so your safe from yourself”.
