Speculation has been rife since yesterday that Betrayoncé, err, Beyoncé, lip-synched the United States, of America’s, national anthem during Barack Obama’s inauguration.
Betrayoncé’s flawless rendition of The Star Spangled Banner stole the show, and Barack even went in for a second kiss after she had finished (though she left him hanging). But was it all too good to be true?
Here is a possible explanation, which has now been widely quoted in the American media. Although the statement has since been retracted.
Kristin DuBois, a representative for the United States Marine Band, said that while the band performed the song live, the singer decided to use a pre-recorded track at the last minute:
All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day. We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyoncé was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.
If this is the case – does it really matter? You don’t exactly want a Saffa styled stuff up of the anthem during the BO’s inauguration.
You decide for yourself from the video above. If she did lip-synch it, then she is really good at it.
