“I’m shutting your butt down.”
With these words, Quentin Tarantino refused to discuss any link between movie violence and real life violence during a TV interview. He was being questioned by Britain’s Channel4 presenter, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, before the London premiere of Django Unchained yesterday.
The film has been criticised for its heavy usage of the “N-word”, as well as its depiction of ultra-violence.
The interview can be seen below. The first part of the discussion began amicably enough, with the tantrum starting at about 4:27 minutes into the video.
The wheels start to come off just after Guru-Murthy asks Tarantino how he can be sure that there’s no link between enjoying movie violence and enjoying real-life violence. Here’s the director’s response:
I don’t … why I’m going to tell you why I’m so sure, dude don’t ask me a question like that … I’m not biting, I refuse your question!
A quiet Guru-Murthy then countered with a simple, “why?”, releasing Tarantino’s full fury:
Because I refuse your question. I’m not your slave and you’re not my master. You can’t make me dance to your tune, I’m not a monkey!”
Murthy insisted he simply wanted to explore the topic, but Tarantino was having none of it. Check out the whole incident below:
