It was six years ago that the world received something it had yet to conceive: the iPhone. That historical day saw Steve Jobs make his way onto stage at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco to deliver a product that has revolutionised the mobile phone market.
Back then, Apple stock was trading at $87, surging to $92 that same day, before rocketing to over $600 in the time since. It’s hovering around $520 today, but those gains are certainly something to marvel at.
Essentially, the product that Jobs went on to introduce that day has changed the world, and the smartphone world, for good.
Reflecting on how much has changed since that day, one of the oddest things to stick out is the fact that Eric Schmidt – then Google CEO and Apple board member – was present. The two were friends then. “You can’t think of the Internet without thinking of Google,” exclaimed Jobs. Schmidt even ran to the stage to congratulate Jobs, joking they should merge the companies into “AppleGoo.”
But those days are long gone, and there has been many a cyber war between the two giants since. Steve has passed on, and Android is now a serious force to be reckoned with.
So for the sake of history, watch is that keynote presentation Jobs gave that day. Notice the things we just take for granted these days. Happy birthday, iPhone!
