Alex Jones, the guy who wants to get Piers Morgan deported from the US for his views on gun control, was invited to Morgan’s show on Monday night. Jones lost the plot and ended up sounding like an even bigger nut-job than before. No one thought this possible.
Jones is a known conspiracy theorist, conservative, and all round crazy guy. In this interview he takes it to a new level, claiming “1776 Will Commence Again” (a reference to the American Revolutionary War), calling Morgan “a hatchet man of the New World Order” and basically just ranting and raving. We could go on quoting and quoting (and sniggering and sniggering) but it really is best if you watch the whole video.
Piers Morgan spoke to Politico after the interview and had this to say.
He was the best advertisement for gun control you could wish for . . . That kind of vitriol, hatred, and zealotry is really quite scary. I didn’t feel threatened by him, but I’m concerned that someone like him has that level of influence . . . There’s got to be a level of discourse that can rise above what happened last night. It was undignified, unedifying.
It is amusing to see what kind of person it takes for Piers Morgan to take the high-road.
Even though the US media are choosing to focus on these sorts of shenanigans rather than gun control itself, Morgan, in dialogue sounding as if it had been lifted straight from Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, said he will continue to fight the good fight.
After every shooting, America goes back to normal. The media come off the story, nothing gets done, the pressure on politicians dissipates . . . But you and I both know there’s going to be another shooting in months, or even weeks. My intent is simply to keep this issue boiling along until the politicians act on it.
It is all and all a rather tawdry affair, and seems all the more silly and insignificant when viewed against a backdrop of 26 deaths at the Sandy Hook shooting.
