Sunday 3 February 2013 marks the date for 47th edition of the Super Bowl. Many people are interested in the actual sport, but so too are they interested in the adverts. Here’s what to look forward to.
The going rate for a 30-second advert during the Super Bowl is around $3,8 million, giver or take a few million dollars depending on how many adverts you buy and for how many years you’re prepared to commit to buying advertising space.
Company’s even shell out for a good few minutes of advertising space. That seems partially understandable when you are reaching an audience of 111 million people, and millions more when your advert goes “viral” afterwards.
Some of the adverts you can look forward to include Kate Upton leading for Mercedes, Jay-Z having a hand in creating and starring in Anheuser-Busch InBev’s (Budweiser’s parent company) craft beer, Black Crown. Audi, Kia, Hyundai, Axe, Best Buy – who have famously used Ozzie Osbourne and Justin Bieber in the past – Go Daddy, Fiat, M&M’s, Oreo’s, Samsung, Skechers and Volkswagen.

One of the more exciting campaigns will be undertaken by Doritos. For the sixth year in a row, they are crowdsourcing their adverts. They’ll flight two adverts voted for and chosen from five videos submitted by anyone who had a camera and the inclination to get involved.
On top of bagging (sorry) themselves $25 000, the five finalists also won a trip to the Super Bowl.
