South Korean comic readers are enraged by an erotic manga that portrays rapper Psy sexually assaulting one of its characters.
The preview panel below was taken from the pornographic comic in question, Samuge-sō no Kimchi na Kanojo. It is also known as an erotic dōjinshi (a genre of self-published fan comics popular throughout Japan).
In the latest issue, Psy is portrayed as a member of a Korean gang that abducts and sexually assaults a group of Japanese high school girls. Psy also shouts, “Gangnam Style!” while kneeing one of the main characters in the groin.
South Koreans went into an uproar when they learned of the comic’s depiction of Psy. According to Rocket News 24, recent political tensions between Japan and South Korea may have fueled Samuge-sō no Kimchi na Kanojo’s creator to originally come up with the “parody”.
In late August 2012 – just as PSY was quickly rising to worldwide prominence – a dispute erupted over the Takeshima and Dokdo islets between Japan and Korea, with both countries claiming ownership. With diplomatic tensions running high, the Japanese public increasingly steered away from any perceived pro-Korean sentiment.
