To get a feel for how many guns are in America you just have to look to Los Angeles where in an attempt to reduce the amount of weaponry the police are buying them back from the public.

If you went to the Los Angeles Police Department last Wednesday and handed in a hand gun you would be given a $100 gift card, and for a rifle you would get a $200 one. In a single day they received the following: 901 handguns, 698 rifles and 363 shotguns. That is somewhat freaking mental. One city. One Day. Nearly 2000 guns.

That’s not all. Among all of this the police department also received two rocket launchers. Rocket launchers. That launch rockets. Not according to the police, however, who told the media they were probably antiquated, not working and picked up by collectors. The only reason that the police said they were not working was because they had no projectiles.

Either way it is a rather incredible amount of guns to be just handed in.
