Earlier this week we reported on a petition that was started in the US – aiming to kick CNN host Piers Morgan out of America. The number of signatures on that list has since grown from 30 000 to more than 70 000!
The uproar started after Morgan called gun advocate Larry Pratt an “unbelievably stupid man” on his CNN program during a discussion about the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. The petition that followed accuses Morgan of engaging “in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution” and wants to deport him “immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”
But in a hilarious twist, a counter petition has now been started in Britain – aiming to keep Morgan in the United States, and out of the UK. It is called “Keep Piers Morgan in the USA”:
We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA. There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.
The petition needs 25 000 signatures by 24 January to merit a response from the White House.
In a series of Twitter messages since, Morgan alternately urged his followers to sign the new petition, and, in response to one article about the petition, said “bring it on” as he appeared to track the petition’s progress.
If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?
