Japan’s northeast coast has been struck by a 7,3 magnitude undersea earthquake, and reports are that a one metre high wave has now swept ashore.
The same stretch of coastline was devastated by a tsunami in March 2011. Thousands of people perished in the wave.
Japan’s national broadcaster, NHK, repeatedly sent out frantic calls for citizens to find higher ground.
Remember last year’s quake and tsunami. Call on your neighbours and flee to higher ground now!
Earlier, the broadcaster also said the tsunami was expected to hit the coast of Iwate , Fukushima , and Aomori and Ibaraki imminently, although a Pacific-wide alert was not issued.
