Cape Town’s two-day spree of wind gusts reported to range between 50 and 120kph are the topic du jour at the moment. So much so that a name was coined for this particularly beastly South Easter on Twitter: #HurricaneGatiema.
The hashtag trended in Cape Town shortly after lunch time.

The wind, which has caused sporadic damage to buildings and vehicles across the peninsula over the last two days has stranded an entire cruise liner in Cape Town harbour.
The Ship was due to leave for Walvis Bay in Namibia yesterday but was forced to remain in the harbour due to strong winds.
Unfortunately for the 2 000 passengers on board all the ships shops and casinos are off limit due to alleged port authority restrictions
“If they allowed the shops and casino to be open, we could function normally until Monday, but now we’re stuck. In addition, immigration doesn’t want to let us off the ship and the captain doesn’t want to let the ship out of the harbour because of the wind.” said passenger Fred Hofman.
Local Capetonian vlogger, Jurger! published this short video of Thursday afternoon’s commute home in the Cape Town CBD.

This is a non-beach weekend. Hold on to your hats, kids.
