An eNCA newsreader, Andrew Barnes, was verbally abused at Virgin Active Green Point on Tuesday morning. This after a fellow gym member took offense after seeing Barnes and his boyfriend kiss each other.

According to Barnes, after a workout together, he was saying goodbye to his partner. They were then approaced by a fellow gym member who used homophobic terms to verbally abuse them. Barnes later took to Facebook to share his experience:

The matter was taken up with Virgin Active’s management. Les Aupiais, who is the head of strategic communications for Virgin Active South Africa, said:

We have a zero tolerance approach to any kind of prejudice and we will act swiftly as soon as we have all the facts. We do try to bring parties together to see if we can find some middle ground and elicit an apology as a starting point.

But sadly, The Homophobe (as Barnes fondly refers to him) has not returned to gym since. But when he does, according to Barnes, he will be in for a bit of “corrective action”:
