What did Helvetica tell you today? You’ve probably already encountered it and not even been aware of it. Well, designers and advertising people would have noticed, but did you?
Helvetica is fast becoming one of the most used typefaces in the world: both Microsoft and Apple, as well as hundreds of other brands now all use Helvetica (and variations thereof) for their corporate logos and typefaces on their marketing material and websites.
Chief digital creative officer at McGarryBowen, Steve Hicks, has written this interesting piece for Adweek about the way Helvetica will dominate the future in advertising.
Another important and equally relevant point is that if you’ve been on say, Facebook, this morning, then you’ve encountered the typeface, because it’s the social media typeface of choice. Therefore, it’s familiar to at least one billion people.
Like Business Insider says, “it’s bold and easy to read for a real, physical reason, not just because it’s trendy.”
