Zambia’s football association president, Kalusha Bwalya, has said that the African champions have accepted an apology over the shocking stoning of their team bus following an international friendly in Jozi on Wednesday night.
Police apprehended two young boys, aged 12 and 13, for the incident, and the boys have been released for counselling.
Bwalya said in a statement:
Let us put this incident behind us for the good of football.
It is unfortunate that all effort and skills displayed on the field by both the Chipolopolo and Bafana Bafana, is put aside in place of an unprecedented incident like this. Apologies from SAFA have been made and accepted. Let us put this incident behind us for the good of football.
During the incident, two Zambian players were injured and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene needed stiches in his head after bus windows were shattered.
The incident occurred after the two youngsters threw stones at the bus as it left FNB stadium in Soweto following Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 loss.
