New footage has emerged of Elvis Presley performing at Madison Square Garden in 1972 as part of a four-concert tour. This was the only time ever that Elvis performed in New York City.
The new video of the King is part of an upcoming three-disc compilation called Elvis Presley: Prince from another Planet. It was shot by fan Don Lance, who was 24 at the time of the concert. He was one of 80 000 people that attended Presley’s sold-out show, and shot the film from the fourth row. His girlfriend managed to sneak in a video camera past security along with six rolls of film.
To steady the camera during the show, I put it on a tripod I had brought in strapped to my leg. Each time I went to film, friends on either side blocked security’s view.
Check out the footage below. The guy being interviewed is Joe Guercio – Presley’s stage manager at the time.
