Movember is now only a few days away and everyone is preparing their upper lip for majestic growth. True to form, local parody kings, Derick Watts & The Sunday Blues, have weighed in on the issue with a brilliant new single.
The comedy duo, famous for their hits “Braaiday” and ” The Car Guard Song“, and most recently a short mockumentary, parodied Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe”, for their latest single, The Movember Song. It follows the lads as they struggle to develop any semblance of moustaches. During their trying journey they seem to be confronted by more manly moustaches around every corner and eventually turn to the help of a very recognisable celebrity doctor.
It’s not just about the laughs though, and the boys hope to raise further awareness about the real issues behind Movember. This, from the video’s YouTube description:
It’s not ALL fun & games however; the band have created this video to help further the real purpose of Movember: educating men & raising awareness about prostate & testicular cancer, helping them to take control of their health whilst raising much-needed funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
Derick Watts member, Gareth Allison added the following:
We wanted to show our support for the Movember cause, which we have supported privately for quite a few years now. Not everyone seems to realise that there is a real meaning behind this month of magnificent “snors”, and we just wanted to help contribute this year in the best way we know how – comedy!
