In a new ad, sponsored by US President Obama’s campaign, the creator of the popular HBO series Girls compares voting to losing one’s virginity. As you might imagine, not everyone was impressed.
Lena Dunham, the creator of the Emmy-winning series Girls, recently appeared in a campaign ad which was intended to speak to a younger audience. In the ad, she talks about her “first time” and how important it is to choose the right person. She makes reference to several general points as well as some much more specific, politcal ones before revealing that she is actually talking about voting.
The tongue-in-cheek ad has only been on the air for a very short while but has already drawn criticism, particularly from Erick Erickson, a CNN contributor and the editor in-chief of RedState, a “leading conservative news blog for right of center online activists.”
If you need any further proof we live in a fallen world destined for hell fire, consider the number of people who have no problem with the President of the United States, via a campaign ad, ridiculing virgins and comparing sex to voting.
He also pointed out that the only true part of that ad is that Obama supporters “have been screwed – economically.”
Regardless of how people feel about the ad, it’s done exactly what it intended to do – start a conversation.
What do you think of the ad? Too far?
