It seems Cycling South Africa is more concerned about prizes and competitive cycling, than safety on our roads. With an almost endless public outcry against public indecency, inappropriate behaviour and the now common practice of cyclists riding through red traffic lights on our roads – oblivious to what impact this has on children (examples here, here, here and here) – one wonders when Cycling South Africa will come forward and do actually do something. Surely the ACTUAL law should be more important than a SPORT’S law? Or do you only take something seriously when your now-fallen saviour Lance is involved?
This, from News24:
Johannesburg – Cycling SA (CSA) president William Newman says drug cheats will be punished regardless of their status in the sporting code.
The International Cycling Union’s (UCI) stripped Lance Armstrong of his record seven Tour titles on Monday, and Newman said CSA had a zero tolerance towards doping in sport.
“It’s a very disappointing day in sport,” said Newman on Tuesday.
“There is no place for people who cheat in sport and we commend the UCI on what they have done.
“This shows that you will be caught, no matter who you are.”
