2oceansvibe can exclusively reveal that the owners of the much publicised Camps Bay mansion (‘Enigma Mansion‘ – on the market at R300 million) have turned down two offers to buy the house for R185 million and R235 million respectively. Our anonymous source who provided this information says, “clients in this league are not surprised by figures of R300 million. To build a house like this in other famous cities around the world at the same price would be impossible. The owner is clearly aware of this.”
And the offers haven’t stopped there, with the likes of Jawitz Properties fielding and presenting a number of interested buyers.
Dubbed South Africa’s ‘Most Palatial Residence‘ and occupying more than 7,000 sqm of the most prestigious residential area on the entire Atlantic seaboard, the estate is a wonderland of sorts, with features, fittings and furnishings the likes of which South Africa has never seen before. Extravagance ranging from pure velvet wallpaper in some bedrooms, to Versace crockery in the kitchen is only the start. A tour of the property takes well over an hour.
Sensational claims of the identity and occupation of the owners were recently made by the Sunday Times, which also stated:
The most expensive home sold in South Africa so far was an 800m² duplex apartment in the R1-billion One & Only Resorts at Cape Town’s Waterfront. The four-bedroom penthouse that runs across the top two floors of the hotel was snapped up in 2008 for R110-million by an international consortium, which included hotelier Sol Kerzner.
The most expensive properties currently on the market include a 1 789m² four-bedroom home in Cape Town’s Fresnaye for R110-million and a 1002m² five-bedroom property for R100-million in the same exclusive Atlantic Seaboard suburb.

Our source went on to say that, “the furniture and inventory alone of this house is valued at just under R100 million. And that’s before you consider the fittings and ceilings and flooring, which came in on containers from all over the world.”
With a cinema, spa, gym, tea garden, meditation temple, Versace-style swimming pool and a “studio” at the bottom of the property (which alone could easily be your dream-home), one can understand why a home with this level of luxury would be so highly sought-after for purchase/rental by A-listers and extremely high nett worth individuals alike.
“The successfuly buyer will no doubt be a cash buyer. These guys want the trophy. They want the most expensive and most grand house in Cape Town and the price is almost irrelevant.”
