Currently studying in Bosnia, the grandson of the late North Korean Great Leader Kim Jong-Il, and nephew of the Young General Kim Jong-Un, has given a rare TV interview. The interview was for Finnish television, with former Under Secretary General of the UN, Elisabeth Rehn.

17-year-old Kim Han-sol is the son of Kim Jong-nam, the eldest child of Kim Jong-Il, and brother to Kim Jong-Un. His family has been living in Macau and China.

More different to the stereotypical Kim family, he could not be. With styled hair, earrings and a black suit mark his strong cultural differences, as well as western accent that speaks perfect English, he is studying at the United World College in Mostar, Bosnia.

In the interview he says that he has never met his grandfather or uncle, and only realised that his grandfather was the Great Leader once he had put together the “pieces of the puzzle” as he got older.

Asked about what he would like to do in the future, Kim said he sees himself going to university and ending up in volunteer or humanitarian work:

I’ve always dreamed that one day I would go back and make things better and make it easier for the people there.

I would like to engage in more humanitarian projects, work to contribute to building world peace, especially back home because that is a really important part of me.
