Ri Sol-Ju has been next to the Young General for quite some time, in the new informal style that he is trying to bring as the new leader of North Korea. She’s been the source of a lot of controversy – and not just for being excellently horse-like. Not only does she have a particularly western style of dress, including a suspected Chanel handbag spotted at a gala in July, but it is suspected that she may even have been disrespecting Great Leader, eternal president Kim Il-Sung (who has been dead since 1994).
North Korean women are expected to dress rather conservatively, wearing skirts or Mao-style workwear. They are also expected to wear a lapel pin with the image of Great Leader Kim Il-Sung, a requirement for all North Koreans. You can see this in the picture above, where she is clearly wearing it, along with her husband the Young General. This is to show their loyalty to the founder of the Great Nation. Excellent Horse-Like Lady has, according to reports, rejected this requirement, and has been spotted rather wearing more feminine, flowery brooches.
She has now not been seen in public for 40 days according to South Korean media, which is raising questions as to her whereabouts. It is especially worrying given the new image the Young General is trying to portray – that of a more informal and benevolent leader. You know – just a normal guy, helping out his fellow Koreans, showing that North Korea is Best Korea.
Two theories have emerged so far – that she has either fallen into the hands of the old guard, or that she might be pregnant. Perhaps we shall be seeing some excellent horse-like babies in the near future?
