Speaking to students at the University of Limpopo, our favourite fallen from grace ex-political figure said that South Africa should be taking its cues from Zimbabwe when it comes to staging a successful revolution. This comment comes after a visit to Zimbabwe by Malema over the weekend.
With multiple economic and credit ratings downgrades, an industrial industry brought to a halt by strikes, and a rand that’s getting weaker by the day, it would seem that South Africa’s already taking a few lessons from Mugabe’s kingdom. Malema told students that Zimplats, the Zimbabwean division of the Impala Platinum Group, was being successfully run by black people.
In an apparent backpedal, he said that the ANC Youth League never wanted wholesale nationalisation, but that his previous rants on nationalisation rather concerned black people getting control of key areas of the economy. He claims that he did not want to drive foreign investment out of the country, but rather to work together with investors to share in the country’s resources. Yeah right.
He also warned the group against living lavish lifestyles once they graduate. Given the current state of the South African job market, and the job prospects for graduates, I don’t think there’s any danger of that happening.
Naturally, he also took the opportunity to take stabs at Zuma about his Nkandla homestead.
Can we put this guy in jail now please?
