Showing the signs of the political tension between the Inkatha Freedom Party and the National Freedom Party, violence erupted outside a KZN courtroom yesterday. This resulted in the shooting of an IFP member, Siya Dlamini, who was killed as a result.
What makes this attack even more brazen is the fact that it happened in full view of a news camera in front of the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court in northern Durban. A local IFP councilour is claiming that the gunman is a member of the new breakaway party, the NFP, with whom the IFP have developed some level of beef with. Police have also confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Police have admitted that they have had their hands full controlling the rival political parties outside the courthouse, and that the shooting most likely happened during a clash between the two groups. Although it happened in plain view of a news camera, it is uncertain if the camera was recording at the time the incident occurred.
The shooting happened following the court appearance of four men who were arrested in connection with the shooting of an IFP supporter at Durban’s KwaMashu hostels just over a week ago, where the NFP is calling for the deployment of soldiers to the area.
