Yesterday, a metro police officer was gunned down in Khayelitsha. Mpumelelo Xakekile was shot by two men at the intersection of Mew Way and Lansdowne Road while issuing a fine to a minibus taxi driver.
Today Cape Town’s mayor, Patricia de Lille, visited Xakekile’s family. It also happens to be the day of his wife’s birthday. They are pictured above together.
De Lille told the widow that she had come to show support to the family, and has offered a R50 000 reward to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of Xakekile’s killers
It is a sad day for the city and we are forced to ask what has gone wrong in our society.
