Jack Daniel’s gave us a call the other day.
“How would you guys feel about taking a V8 Chevvy Camaro for a spin.”
I’d feel great about it. That’s how I’d feel. And then I went back to work.
Twenty minutes laters a guy named Joe pulled up outside The Compound. He said he had “a delivery”.
This picture was taken between 10 and 15 seconds later, before one of the most enjoyable drives of my life.
There’s a happy little boy…
Look, I’m not a motoring journalist (although, Ciro de Siena is), so I’m not even going to begin to try to cover the technical specs of this machine, much less evaluate them. But I can tell you what I felt when I was driving the car along Victoria Drive, on a clouded, brooding day on Cape Town’s atlantic seaboard.
I felt fast, powerful. I felt liberated.
I’ve always judged people who let a piece of material equipment (especially one as obvious as a car) augment who they are. But I may have judged too soon, out of ignorance. The truth is that when you’re driving a car that powerful, you are afforded something extra out on the road. You’re afforded a hell of a lot more horse power and speed than you would otherwise normally have your disposal. You have capacity, and potential, where twenty minutes beforehand you had deadlines, or nagging colleagues, or the tail end of a strategy meeting in the cramped offices of a vaguely friendly client, surrounded by equally bored strangers.
It doesn’t matter if the most you make of that newfound potential is to 180k/ph on a winding coastal road, or the passing of an especially sluggish microbus, as I did. The point is that it’s there, at your feet, and in your hands. It’s a beautiful car, and you’ll notice that if you take a scroll through the gallery below.
And while you’re soothing your eyeballs with the eyecandy, consider this: That car could be yours.
This one.
Yep, I could actually be calling you in a few months’ time, begging to take this sweet puppy for a spin. All you have to do purchase a bottle of Jack Daniel’s and SMS the unique code on-pack, or buy a tot of Jack Daniel’s in birthday promotions in participating bars. Essentially, don’t alter your basic behaviour patterns at all, and you can win this car. This R1 million, murdered-out beast.
And remember, keep your eyes peeled on the competitions section of 2oceansvibe.com, for calls to entry to the latest Friday Done Jack’s Way!
