On Friday, the body of a young man from Cape Town was found in Khayelitsha, he was killed after trying to sell his BMW to a man who responded to his ad on Gumtree.
Olwyn Cowley, 21, from Brackenfell, had placed an ad on the popular online classifieds site, Gumtree for his silver BMW. According to Cowley’s aunt, Anita Hanekom, he had met with a man previously who was interested in the vehicle. The man provided him with a name and an ID number, however it was later found that the former was false.
I’m not sure where he met him before. The guy asked for some time because he didn’t have money, but then called Olwyn back saying he had the money.
Olwyn had his name and ID number, but police records show it was a fake name, although the ID number was real.
The man showed interest in the car, but asked for more time to come up with the money. When the man supposedly had the money, he called to arrange a meeting. Cowley was last seen leaving to meet with the prospective buyer at the Shell Garage at Century City.
