You have to give it to Julius Malema. Yesterday he told over 1 000 mineworkers gathered at Aurora mine in eastern Johannesburg that the government is oppressing “us”. He also told them that it was better for black people in South Africa during Apartheid.
Once again, you have to give this guy some serious points for not only being persistent and adaptable, but also for being super creative.
My favourite part in his speech below – and you have to listen carefully for it – occurs at about 0:06. Just after Malema says: “we thought it was going to be nice to be a black person in this country after 1994”, you can actually hear a guy respond: “Eish!”
What isn’t funny, however, is to see the interviews with some of the miners afterwards. The pain these people are going through is visible and undeniable. And to see politicians (Malema being by far not the only one) taking advantage of their suffering for political gain is sickening.
