The team over at Green Renaissance has started an activation along the N2 highway in Cape Town near the Cape Town International Airport. It will serve as a continual reminder of the epidemic that is rhino poaching in South Africa.
At least 312 Rhinos have already been killed during the first seven months of 2012. Frustrated by the rampant poaching of South Africa’s rhinos, the Green Renaissance team wanted to generate awareness for this cause.
Reverse graffiti is an art form that removes dust or dirt rather than adding paint. Armed with steel wire scrubbing brushes, and cut out stencils, we created reverse graffiti images along the side of the N2 highway, near the Cape Town Airport. A total of 312 crosses were scrubbed – each cross a mark for one rhino killed. This activation will be an evolving reminder, updated monthly to raise awareness for the plight of Rhinos.
