On Friday, cyclists from the “Critical Mass” cycling campaign defied police instructions not to go ahead with their monthly cycle on the eve of the Olympic opening ceremony. This ended up in brawls between police officers and cyclists in central London, resulting in 130 people being arrested.
People taking part in the mass bike ride claimed they were “kettled” near the stadium in Stratford. The event, which regularly takes place in over 300 cities worldwide, is a pro-cycling mass bike ride which seeks to “claim the streets of the capital for cyclists.”
The below YouTube videos, which allegedly capture the clashes, have since attracted over 43 000 views. According to the video uploaders, they were filming the police “assaulting a disabled man, who was stationary on his motorized tricycle.” You can also hear a woman shouting: “Stop it. That man is clearly disabled.”
