News broke overnight that Great Leader, Kim Jong-un, is in fact married. And it isn’t to the pop princess who sings “Excellent Horse-Like Lady”, but in fact another singer.
Speculation had been rife over recent weeks that Great Leader was having physical liaisons with a woman who formally had an illustrious pop career in North Korea.
Her name is Hyon Song-wol, and it was thought it was she who had been beside the supreme leader a few times in recent weeks.
She had a 2005 smash hit, “Excellent Horse-Like Lady”, and seemed like a good choice.
But, the Guardian managed to get this video footage of Korean state television letting a “secret” “slip” to the world yesterday.
Great Leader’s wife’s name is Ri Sol-ju, and she is also of a signing background. However, it’s said she studied science, and is from an upper-class family, her father being a professor and her mother an obstetrician.
The BBC says:
State media [didn’t] mention when the couple got married.
Ms Ri is thought to be the same “mystery woman” who accompanied Mr Kim to several events in recent weeks and whose Western dress and hairstyle led some to speculate on the influence of Mr Kim’s brief European education.
The woman was spotted with him at a concert featuring Disney characters and at a ceremony to mark the 18th anniversary of the death of Kim Il-sung, Mr Kim’s grandfather.
South Korean media had previously speculated that the woman was another North Korean singer, Hyon Song-wol.
Appearing with his wife may be part of a more informal style that Mr Kim is trying to cultivate to contrast with the austere manner of his father.
Some gamble that the two have been married 2009, and may even have a baby boy together. But Great Leader hasn’t let much more than the above, and some public outings, become public knowledge.
