Today is Madiba day, Nelson Mandela’s 94th birthday, and to honour the great man, Prezence Digital put together an amazing video tribute exploring how things might have been different had today’s social media been around back in the day.
The tribute really is fantastic, and chronicles Mandela’s life through hypothetical updates and posts on all of today’s prominent social media networks. 2oceansvibe got a chance to catch up with Tim Bishop, MD of Prezence Digital, who explained the concept and creative process.
The idea was conceived about 6 months ago and was completely driven by the passion and creativity of the entire Prezence Digital team. Digital is such a pervasive medium when used for positive and meaningful applications and using our efforts to tribute possibly the greatest man alive was an absolute honour and was something everyone was very excited about. With the power of Social networking being contributory factors in many of the uprisings and movements for change around the world in recent years, we thought it would be interesting to take a quick video snapshot look at how our own great man’s struggles might have looked over the various social networks if they existed around that time.It also gave the Prezence Digital team a great opportunity to really stretch their creative legs with the hope of providing inspiration to the rest of the world of what Madiba endured and that the future is now very much in our hands after his great foundation. This video tribute is our gift to him, and everyone who knows him (and hopefully will get to know him) and we hope everyone loves it and feels moved, inspired and of course proudly South African.
