Ah business class, the good life, more comfortable, roomier seats, better service and, crucially, better food. Unless of course you were amongst a group of business class travelers on-board Delta Air Lines flights from Amsterdam to Atlanta who were served sandwiches containing needles.
Business class passengers on Delta Air Lines flights from Amsterdam to Minneapolis and to Seattle were rudely surprised when they bit into their in-flight sandwiches only to find that they contained needles. According to Delta, one of the foreign objects was “described as a sewing needle” and said the following in a statement:
“Delta is taking this matter extremely seriously and is co-operating with local and federal authorities who are investigating the incident,
“Delta has taken immediate action with our in-flight caterer at Amsterdam to ensure the safety and quality of the food we provide onboard our aircraft,” Delta said in a statement.
A single passenger was injured and although the extent of the damage was not disclosed it can be assumed it was not very serious as he/she refused medical attention from paramedics on the scene.
It is not yet known how the sewing implements found their way into the business class meals provided by the in-flight caterer Gate Gourmet.
“We take this matter very seriously and have launched our own full-scale investigation. We’ve increased inspections and security” said a spokeswoman for the catering company.
She declined further comment, saying only that “details of this matter must remain confidential”.
