It has just been reported on Twitter, that the Knysna Marathon has been cancelled, due to unsafe conditions.

The Knysna Marathon Club released this statement on their website:

Due to unsafe conditions the 2012 Pick n Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon have been cancelled. Your safety is our first concern.

We had a long run of great weather over many years so let us be thankfull for that and trade the running shoes for hot coffee today.

We are as heartbroken as you are for the event that did not happen. We put nine months of hard work into this so the disappointment runs deep.

Still a bit of thinking to do but to make sure the one that did not happen is also not forgotten we will be putting plans in place to this effect. Thinking is to organize for all that registered a medal and to still have the big lucky draw for all of you that registered.

A collection point is being organized at the local Pick n Pay for those that brought clothing that would have been collected in the Forest today. You guys are special people for still asking to do this.
