Madeleine McCann disappeared when her family went on holiday to Portugal in 2007. Her body has never been found, and her parents are clinging to the belief that she is still alive. This hasn’t stopped a South African man from his mission to find her grave – which he claims he’s just done.
Stephen Birch, a South African property developer, is a self-confessed amateur investigator of sorts. He says he has been “obsessed” with the mystery of the McCann disappearance, and recently sent the British police some evidence which he believes reveals the location of the little girl’s grave.
Birch has spent about R500 000 on acquiring a radar scanner (and the training on how to use it), and believes a piece of land near the holiday apartment where McCann went missing to be the location of her grave. According to Sky News, Birch has said:
I’ve had the scans analysed and they show digging, a void and what could be human bones.
Police are examining the claims and are yet to make a statement. Madeleine went missing from the holiday apartment while her parents were having dinner.
Madeleine’s parents, who hold firm that their daughter is still alive, have refused to comment on Birch’s claims.
