Pandas have been on the endangered species list for some time now, so to promote their plight 108 performing pandas took to the streets of London to entertain commuters and passers-by. Click through for the video.
The efforts were all part of the first ever Panda Awareness Week and the cuddly entertainers were seen all across London. They started of their tour with tai-chi in Trafalgar Square before descending upon Convent Garden for a “panda party”. They also visited several schools and entertained daily commuters they met on their travels.
Chengdu Panda Base in China was responsible for the cuddly entertainment and conservationist and base ambassador Nigel Marven accompanied them.
“Pandas used to be really difficult to breed in captivity, but the Chengdu base and other zoos around the world have cracked the problem and now there are around 400 in captivity,” Mr Marven said.
“It’s a great conservation success story.”
The base hopes that this, and other efforts, will maintain strong public awareness and educate people to the importance of conservation efforts for these animals.
