To be honest, I’ve never really followed any of the other olympic torch relays, but this year’s one has been pretty awesome. Kids are trying to steal it, a man with a jetpack is flying with it, and stormtroopers are getting to carry it.
Apparently the torch has a “highly trained security team”. Well, let us hope the rest of the security is better prepared than those manning this route, as a couple of kids in Coventry tried to grab the torch and run with it for a bit. The torch is currently on day 46 of its 70-day route around the country. 8 000 people will carry the torch before the opening ceremony at the London Olympic Games on 27 July.
In other Olympic Torch news, London is obviously trying to make the London Olympics the coolest olympics ever, as a man with a jet pack was employed to carry the torch past Britain’s National Space Centre. Eric Scott, famed for his exploits attached to a hydrogen-peroxide tank, lifted off before handing the torch to local man, Kevin Davies.
But that’s not all, Scott was joined in Leicester by a squad of Storm Troopers, who preceded the jetpack flight by marching around the National Space Centre. So in two days there has been theft, jetpacks and stormtroopers all dealing with the olympic torch. As olympics go, this is all sorts of awesome. But then you can’t be surprised, what with Boris Johnson being the mayor.
