Since Monday’s announcement of the ultra sexy new MacBook Pro, you know, the one with the insane Retina display, everyone has been wanting to know – when is it coming to SA, and what will it cost? I’ll be honest, it ain’t cheap. Not by a long shot.
The Core Group announced the prices of the next generation notebooks yesterday, and get ready to make an appointment with your bank manager.
A new entry level 11-inch MacBook Air will set you back R10 499, a slight bump up in price from it’s current R9 999 price tag. The model is essentially the same, retaining it’s flash storage at 64GB and bumping up the RAM to 4GB.
The new MacBook Pro is carrying a hefty pricetag – a new 15,4 inch is going to cost you a staggering R29 999, which buys you 8GB of RAM, a 2.6 Ghz i7 processor and 512GB of flash storage. A lot of that is most likely due to the new screen, which at 2880×1800 is easily the best screen in the business. The new MacBook Pro is not in any way upgradeable, using a proprietary SSD and the RAM soldered directly to the motherboard. This may make some people question the real value you can get at that price.
The launch date for SA should be revealed shortly, which gives you some time to consider the need for that second kidney you’re carrying around.
