So there was this scene towards the end of the first season of Game of Thrones – that popular, high budget, swords/sorcery/nudity show that HBO’s running – where a bunch of heads were lined up on spikes. And director’s commentary from the recently-released Season 1 DVD has revealed that one of the heads belonged to ex-president George Bush.
Says the AVC:
“While commenting on the spiked traitors lining King’s Landing, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reveal that “the last head on the left is George [W.] Bush,” explaining that, while the rubber facsimile of Bush was used in several beheading scenes, they definitely didn’t intend it as some sort of statement, even though it’s kind of hard not to read it as such.”
The easter egg has since caused a little bit of controversy because, duh, ex-president’s severed head on a spike, prompting HBO to release a statement:
“We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production.”
Because I guess it’s reasonably easy to inadvertently place a rubber facsimile of a former president’s head on a spike.
