Headlines like this make me little bit sick, and leave me worrying about the state of tolerance and transformation in South Africa. Thapelo Makutle, a homosexual and transgender man living in Kuruman, was brutally attacked and beheaded in the Northern Cape. Words fail me.
According to LEGBO Northern Cape, a rights organisation for whom Makutle volunteered, he was approached at his place of work and confronted about his homosexuality and transgendered image. Following this argument, his attackers followed him home, where his throat was slit.
Some reports state that he was beheaded, whereas others cannot confirm that the head was severed from the body. His body was covered with a blanket to make it look as though he was sleeping.
No arrests have been made.
