Often the US military needs to send soldiers to places that aren’t exactly “entry-friendly”. So they devised a contest to get the brightest young minds working on their problem, and from beneath all the riffraff came this awesome wall-climbing backpack.

The revolutionary backpack was designed by the Utah State University “Ascending Aggies” team for an Air Force contest that asked competitors to get four soldiers over a sheer wall. Their Personal Vacuum Assisted Climber (PVCA) placed first out of 33 other entries. As the name would suggest, the pack uses vacuum technology to stick to the wall.

Although the device still needs some refinement, like cutting down the noise level to something lower than a Jumbo, winning the contest secured the team $100 000 from the Air Force.
