The Citizen reported over the weekend that Tokyo Sexwale is to be booted out of President Jacob Zuma’s Cabinet in yet another cabinet reshuffle. It has not been confirmed whether Zuma is going to go for a standard riffle, or the more typical overhand shuffle. The rumour comes from a “highly placed source” who told The Citizen that “Sexwale has been speaking against Zuma’s government lately. Zuma wants him out.”
Murmurs have been circulating that Sexwale has ambitions to become president, and will be a likely challenger for the ANC presidency. He has already started beating the drum, telling people at a gathering in the Eastern Cape recently not to fear those in power. “We put people in authority and we get terrified of them. You start to fear an MEC, a mayor, a minister, you fear premiers, you fear the president,” he said.
As usual spokespeople did very little speaking. Government spokesmen Jimmy Manyi refused to comment and referred The Citizen to the presidential spokesman, Mac Maharaj.
Maharaj said: “Recycling rumours is not part of my brief.” Thanks Mac, but what about confirming or denying them?
