Holy backpedal, Batman! After a hell bent crusade against the Goodman Gallery, the ANC has decided to withdraw its case. This comes following the march on the gallery yesterday, where the gallery and the ruling party got together and reached an agreement. The announcement was made this morning in a media briefing at the gallery.
The gallery has stated that the artist of The Spear, Brett Murray, and the gallery itself, did not intend to bring insult. Liza Essers, the Goodman Gallery’s director also went on to say:
We can’t be in a situation where artworks are censored. The ANC have heard that. Art by its nature is controversial.
It seems the storm in the teacup has finally settled. You can all go back to normal now.
