The youth have spoken…
A research company called Pondering Panda, connected to World of Avatar, has revealed the results of a survey of South African youth they undertook via popular mobile social platform, MXit. The survey quizzed 3 615 people under 35 regarding their political preferences for the next President of South Africa. The results are interesting, to say the least.
Of those polled, 28,5% would prefer Kgalema Motlanthe to resume his duties as our nation’s President, with 19,8% preferring suspended ANCYL chief, Julius Malema to take the country’s top office. 18,7% indicated DA leader Helen Zille would be their choice, and only 15,3% of those polled preferred incumbent President Jacob Zuma.
As Shirley Wakefield, CEO of Pondering Panda explained to Times LIVE, what the poll does show is that Jaco Zuma does not enjoy a lot of youth support in the country. According to the results, President Zuma was least favourite across all age brackets and race categories polled. Of black respondents, over a third preferred Motlanthe.
Helen Zille garnered strong support from coloured respondents (55%), and Julius Malema’s strongest support came from 15-20 and 18-24 year-olds compared to 25-35 year-olds.
