An alleged ancient religious text, which was confiscated in 2000 by Turkish authorities, has since resurfaced following a request by the Vatican to view it. An Iranian report claims that the book’s contents will ‘”trigger Christianity’s downfall by proving that Islam is the final and righteous religion.”
The book was confiscated in 2000 during an anti-smuggling raid in Turkey’s Mediterranean region. Turkish authorities believe the book to be written by one of Jesus’ disciples, Baranabas, and that it is an authentic version of the gospel. The text was written on animal hide and is believed to date from the fifth century, and Iran’s Basij Press says it predicted the coming of the Prophet Mohammad. The agency also claims that Chapter 41 reads:
“God has hidden himself as Archangel Michael ran them (Adam and Eve) out of heaven, (and) when Adam turned, he noticed that at top of the gateway to heaven, it was written ‘La elah ela Allah, Mohamad rasool Allah,’ meaning Allah is the only God and Mohammad his prophet.”
They say that the Christian worlds denies the existence of such a gospel, and contend that it will change the world as we know it.
“The discovery of the original Barnabas Bible will now undermine the Christian Church and its authority and will revolutionize the religion in the world.”
As would be expected with such a discovery, there are many who question its authenticity. Observer of Iranian affairs and terrorism expert, Erick Stakelbeck, believes it is possible that it could all be a fabrication by the Iranian regime to stamp out Christianity.
“The Iranian regime is committed to stamping out Christianity by any means necessary, whether that means executing Christian converts, burning Bibles or raiding underground churches,” he said.
It is unknown whether the Vatican’s official request to view the text was granted or not, and until further investigation can be conducted into the authenticity of the book, and the accuracy of its translation, speculation will abound.
