Fat people take up a lot of space on the plane. I mean, how many times have you had to fold your arms so they can merely fit into their space, and yours. For a long time, we’ve all wanted them to have their own fat seats when they fly. Finally! This is a reality. Thank you, Airbus.
Airbus has decided to offer its clients the option of super-sized seats for large people on its A320 planes.
Obesity is huge; it’s a global problem, and according to a 2010 survey, about 60 per cent of South Africans are super-sized or morbidly obese.
Zuzana Hrukara, Airbus’s head of aircraft interiors marketing, said:
We are offering the possibility of a 20-inch (50cm) seat for larger people. Countries and airlines recognise obesity as a growing phenomenon … This concept was discussed and used in active campaigns in North America.
Mainly, it was the fat people in the US driving this demand, but fat people are everywhere, so it was only a matter of time before the service would be offered to individual carriers if they wanted it.
If operators are interested, we will install it across the cabin [or in specific areas].
SAA said it will offer this fat person option soon:
These seats will be wider with more legroom and will easily accommodate larger passengers.
In a standard Airbus A320 economy cabin, there is a single aisle, flanked by three seats on each side, all 18 inches wide.
To accommodate the super-size seats, all aisle seats will be 20 inches wide and the other two will be reduced to 17 inches.
It’s going to be up to airlines whether they charge fat people more, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
