Today the ANC is in court over the controversial painting of President Jacob Zuma and his penis. Some of his supporters have gathered outside the South Gauteng High Court, along with six of his children. The other 12 of his confirmed 18 kids were absent. So were his other seven illegitimate and/or rumoured children.
The crowd is there to support a legal attempt to remove the painting of Zuma from the Goodman Gallery. Most of the group wore ANC T-shirts and sang in front of the court building. Some displayed posters reading: “President Zuma has a right to human dignity and privacy.” The ANC contends that the work, which shows the president’s penis, is a violation of his dignity and that, in this case, the artist’s right to freedom of expression should be set aside.
Roads around the court are closed in anticipation of protests. Police in riot gear and police nyalas are also parked nearby.
