An excellent opportunity to go recreate those school outings we all endured and loved!
Today is International Museum Day, and what that means is all of Iziko’s museums, bar the Castle of Good Hope, are opening their doors for free, and there is no shortage of amazing collections to go see! Cape Town, of course, has the lion’s share. Iziko runs 11 national museums, the Planetarium at the South African Museum in the Company Gardens, and the newly renovated Social History Centre in Cape Town.
Iziko have also set up a programme of events at the South African Museum for the day, including screening of local films, displays by local artists and craftsmen and special displays. Check out the programme here.
Anyone who went to school in Cape Town will remember this guy!
IZIKO’s website has a full list of the participating museums, including the National Gallery in the Gardens, the Slave Lodge at the top of Adderley Street (which contains the Natural History Museum), the Planetarium and several more. If you’re in the area, take a stroll over lunch and check it out!
