DA Leader Helen Zille was under the spotlight after a new report written on behalf of Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, alleged that lawful process was not followed in a recent tender procurement by the Western Cape government. Zille has previously spoken out against corruption by stating that she would resign should any tender be found corrupt.
Zille said yesterday:
I had undertaken to resign if the tender were found to be corrupt. It is common cause that there was no corruption whatsoever, and I regard these resignation calls as normal political posturing that should be treated as such.
The tender in question concerns a contract between the Western Cape government and advertising agency TBWA Hunt Lascaris. The report found that the involvement of Zille’s political and special advisors in the tender bidding process was “unlawful,” and as such the entire tender bidding process was rendered invalid.
Zille will be meeting with the Public Protector on Thursday.
