Men and women. We’re wired differently. Our work habits differ. I’m not sure what you’ve found in your daily experience, but in my own personal experience, I’ve found that I tend to work in bursts of high productivity. And sometimes, when the deadlines loom, and the pressure’s on, the magic evaporates into thin air.
There’s nothing you can do. You definitely can’t force the matter – what would be the use? You’ll be throwing brown paint on the Sistine Chapel.
Do you want to be the guy who undoes a stellar run of hardcore productivity by slogging through a momentary dry patch? I don’t. We only work with diamond minds around here, my friend.
The women in my life (again, I can’t speak for the kind of lady-company you keep) don’t suffer from this kind of problem. They manage to stay on the level, quietly but steadily chewing through a workload.
I don’t know. Blame biology, whatever. But it’s not how I work.
The point being, you need to create your own mechanism to break a creative block.
Mine happens to be a combination of walking, and food. I’m serious, try it. Take your mind for a stroll, get some food in your personal space zone (my PA, Jennifer, has become a regular face at the KFC around the corner from our offices), and reset. It might be the endorphins, the ritual of slicing a burger in two halves (practised since the age of five, thank you), or the simple nutrition. It’s a mystery, to be honest. A wonderful, magical mystery.
Or, when the weather proves to be inclement, walking is replaced by a short, vigorous bout of internet/iPad flash gaming. No spice.
Victory. Power. Winning.
WHAM. You’re reset. Back to cashing cheques and breaking necks.
Check this one out. it’s a goody. You’re welcome.
